Langenhennersdorf waterfall

Short facts

  • Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel
  • Natural sight

With a free fall height of around 9 meters, it is the highest natural waterfall in Saxon Switzerland.

The Langehennersdorf village stream flows into the lower-lying Gottleuba via further cascades and the undercrossing of the S174.  The falling water has dug deep into the Elbe sandstone, a remarkable achievement, especially as the waterfall is more of a trickle than a torrent today, depending on the weather.

Near the road is the round stone table with 7 small boulders - a small reference to the legend of the Quarkse vom Cottaer Spitzberg (see the legend book of Saxon Switzerland by Alfred Meiche). They are said to have inhabited the  dwarf cave. Irregular steps lead to this narrow crevice, which is actually a quarry cave. Here the joy of discovery is awakened by little hikers  - don't forget your flashlight!

The waterfall can only be reached directly from the parking bay on the state road 174, drive out of the center of the village in the direction of Pirna, after the last house about 400m, there are no forest paths or hiking trails leading to the destination.
