The GDR Museum Pirna is located in a former barracks complex and offers a comprehensive insight into life in the GDR until 1989 on two floors.
Over 120,000 original exhibits are on display on around 2,000 square meters - including a reconstructed school classroom, a consumer store, an apartment and historic vehicles.
Interactive stations such as the driving simulation in a Trabi and scenarios from school, children's holiday camps and the pioneer era are particularly popular.
The museum is aimed at all age groups with topics on family, everyday school life, work, the Stasi and ideology - supplemented by special exhibitions and themed tours.
