Film Synopsis
Line Renaud, who was 93 years old during filming, plays an elderly woman who, after taking one last look at her house in the suburbs, takes a taxi across Paris to a retirement home. Her driver, Charles, is so stressed that he can barely get a word out. But the charming Madeleine manages to draw him out of his shell. On the spur of the moment, she asks him to take her to a few stops from her past. She wants to see those places that were important in her life one more time. Charles, initially annoyed and grumpy, sets off. With each stop, Madeleine’s astonishing life story unfolds—a story in which her personal fate is closely intertwined with society’s view of women during each respective era. Charles is increasingly moved and, in turn, begins to share his own struggles. But Madeleine wouldn’t be Madeleine if she didn’t have a piece of advice or two for Charles, thanks to her sense of humor and worldly wisdom. What begins as a normal taxi ride turns into a profound encounter between two generations—and a journey of self-discovery.
