On this hiking trip, you will discover the six most beautiful stages of the Malerweg. You will walk directly from one accommodation to another, located in close proximity to or directly on the Malerweg. Tour Description
- Day 1: Individual Arrival in Lohmen
You arrive individually in Lohmen. The Lohmen Castle sits majestically on a rugged rock above the town. This small rural location between Pirna and Stadt Wehlen serves as an ideal starting point for a small initial hike on the Painter's Path, into the Liebethaler Grund: Through narrow rocky gorges, the small Wesenitz stream quickly finds its way, shaping the wild and romantic character of the valley. Only a few steps away from the once-popular LochmĂĽhle, you will find the Richard Wagner Monument. - Day 2: Lohmen - Spa Town Rathen (approx. 10 km)
On the Brückwaldweg and through the “Schleifgrund,” you hike directly into the “Uttewalder Grund.” The cool terrain leads you through narrow crevices, past evidence of the formation of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and a rich variety of ferns, to the town of Stadt Wehlen on the Elbe. Past the castle ruins, over the "Stone Table," you reach the most visited spot in Saxon Switzerland, the "Bastei." Breathtaking views and the impressive Bastei Bridge high above the Elbe Valley offer a grand view over the national park. Surrounded by rock groups like "Kleine Gans," "Lokomotive," and "Talwächter," the path descends to the "Amselgrund." In the evening, there is an opportunity to visit the Rathen Rock Theater or take a short walk to the "Amselsee" (500m). - Day 3: Spa Town Rathen - Spa Town Gohrisch (approx. 17 km)
In the morning, you ascend to Weißig and hike above the Elbe to Thürmsdorf, from where you look onto a popular 18th-century motif, the Elbe loop with the table mountains "Lilienstein" and "Königstein." The patrol path takes you down to Königstein and immediately uphill to the next grand view. From the plateau of the "Pfaffensteine," with the famous rock needle "Barbarine" in the foreground, you have a magnificent view. On the Königsweg, you now enter the "Kingdom of Stones." Seven distinctive stones - the "Papststein," the "Gohrisch," the "Kleinhennersdorfer Stein," the "Lasensteine," the "Kohlbornstein," as well as the "Katzstein" and the "Spitze Stein" in the south shape the image of the Gohrisch community. - Day 4: Spa Town Gohrisch - Bad Schandau (approx. 9 km)
You begin your day's stage with the hike over the Muselweg and ascent to Papststein. After descending from Papststein, a short detour from the route to the Lichterhöhle is worthwhile. The Painter's Path continues to Papstdorf and through Kleinhennersdorf to the Elbe in Krippen. Follow the Sundial Path and discover the twelve sundials in the town or linger by the Krippenbach, where, with some luck, you may observe the rare water ouzel, the kingfisher, or the grey wagtail. After a few steps, you will see the Elbe and the silhouette of Bad Schandau; to the east, you can see the mighty Schrammstein massif. You cross to the other side of the Elbe with the ferry and pass the striking Ostrauer lift on the right bank. - Day 5: Hike into the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz (approx. 13 km)
Bad Schandau is the ideal starting point for a hike into the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz. You walk through the wild and romantic Lattengrund and over steps and ladders the Ridgeway to the impressive Schrammstein viewpoint and further into the territory of the Affensteine. With a historical tram, the Kirnitzschtalbahn, you can comfortably return to Bad Schandau (included in the guest card mobility). - Day 6: Bad Schandau - Hohnstein/Polenztal (approx. 17 km)
Over the Schlossberg, follow the Panoramaweg to Altendorf. From Altendorf, continue on the Painter's Path route towards the GroĂźdorfer Raubschloss. Once you reach the Sebnitz Valley, continue a short distance parallel to the National Park Railway to the small town of KohlmĂĽhle and further into the wild and romantic Kohlichtgraben. Always uphill, you walk over the MĂĽhlweg into the picturesque village of Waitzdorf. To reach the ascent on the opposite Brandaussicht, the Tief Grund must first be crossed. At the Brand, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view. You reach Hohnstein via the Gautschgrotte. You descend through the Schindergraben into the Polenztal. - Day 7: Hohnstein/Polenztal - Lohmen (approx. 13 km)
The hike begins with the ascent via the iron staircase through the narrow rock crevice of the Wolfsschlucht to the Hockstein vista. *From various vantage points, a vast view into the canyon-like Polenz Valley opens up. The path comfortably continues over the stone Devil's Bridge, past old beeches, and along the field border with a beautiful distant view over to the Lilienstein and into the small village of Rathewalde. In a romantic location at the entrance to the Amselgrund, you pass the Rathewalder Mühle. A little later, the Grünbach falls in several small waterfalls and the large Amsel waterfall over the Amsel hole. The most spectacular part of this stage is the narrow path through the Schwedenlöcher. After 700 steps, the viewpoint at the exit of the Schwedenlöcher is reached. A breathtaking view awaits you of the Bastei Bridge, the Lilienstein in the distance, and on the horizon, the volcanic cones of Bohemian Switzerland. Past the Stone Table, you walk through the Höllengrund into the Uttewalder Grund towards Lohmen. - Day 8: Individual Departure from Lohmen
