Tour description
- Day 1: Individual arrival in Dresden
In the historic old town of Dresden, the sights line up one after another. The Zwinger, the Residenzschloss, the Semperoper, the Frauenkirche or even the Historic Green Vault keep the city's history alive.
You can also discover one of the numerous museums such as the German Hygiene Museum or the individual locations of the State Art Collections. Your visit is rounded off with a stroll through the Neustadt, the colorful trendy district of the city. Overnight stay in Dresden - Day 2: Dresden – Bad Schandau (approx. 45 km)
You leave Dresden and cycle past the three Elbe castles and the »Blue Wonder« to Pillnitz. The glamorous Pillnitz Palace with its extensive park, former summer residence of the Saxon royal family, is considered the most important chinoise palace complex in Europe.
A rarity in the artfully landscaped park is an over 200-year-old camellia tree. Your tour takes you further to Pirna. Shortly after the city you will already see the first sandstone rocks and table mountains that give Saxon Switzerland its unique character. In the midst of the bizarre rock world, you will end your tour in the spa town of Bad Schandau.
Overnight stay in Bad Schandau - Day 3: Bad Schandau – Děčin/Tetschen (approx. 25 km)
Explore Bad Schandau extensively today before cycling on the right side of the Elbe on the cycle path via Krippen and Schöna to the Czech border. Shortly behind the border is the town of Děčin.
Here, an almost 300-meter-long path enclosed by a seven-meter-high wall, called the "Long Ride", leads you to the castle. Visit the living quarters of the former castle owner or take a walk through the adjacent rose garden. Overnight stay in Děčin - Day 4: Děčin – Litoměřice/Leitmeritz (approx. 50 km)
On your third stage, you cycle past the Großpriesen Castle to Ústí nad Labem/Aussig. The city is located in the picturesque hilly landscape of the Bohemian Central Uplands.
Stroll to the Schreckenstein castle ruins and enjoy the magnificent view over the Elbe valley. From Ústí nad Labem you cycle to the small Elbe town of Litoměřice. Your stage destination enchants with its harmonious town square, framed by townhouses of various architectural styles, and the numerous churches worth seeing.
Overnight stay in Litoměřice - Day 5: Litoměřice – Mělník (approx. 45 km)
Shortly behind Litoměřice you pass Terezín/Theresienstadt, where the memorial of the Theresienstadt concentration camp is located.
The Ghetto Museum and the Jewish cemetery also document the events of that time. You continue towards Mělník and reach the town of Roudnice halfway through the stage. The castle of the Lobkowicz family features a garden worth seeing. Guided tours in the castle are also possible during opening hours. From afar you will see the Mělník Castle on your onward journey. The city is located in the Central Bohemian wine-growing region at the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe. Around the market square and on the way to the castle there are many small wine taverns offering good Bohemian cuisine and regional wine.
Overnight stay in Mělník - Day 6: Mělník – Prague (approx. 55 km)
From Mělník you cycle along the Vltava (cycle route number 7), where it goes slightly up and down, towards Prague. In the Troja district, you pass the magnificent baroque Troja Palace with its beautiful French garden.
Inside are unique fresco decorations and exhibitions of the Prague City Gallery. You cycle further into the old town of the "Golden City on the Vltava", where numerous cafes and restaurants invite you to linger in the evening. Overnight stay in Prague - Day 7: Dresden – Bad Schandau (approx. 45 km)
