Surrounded by orchards, a gem is hidden on a plateau between the city limits of Dresden and the town of Dohna: the village of Röhrsdorf. Here a relaxing, short route leads into the Röhrsdorfer Grund. It is suitable as a leisurely Sunday afternoon walk.
The start and end of the route is the Saxon-Bohemian Farmers Market. It then goes through the castle park, the Röhrsdorfer Grund, and through the apple orchard back. The route is signposted as the Röhrsdorfer Grund and Apple Circular Route. The newly designed Röhrsdorf castle park and the revived landscape garden in the Röhrsdorfer Grund are the highlights of a six-kilometer circular hike.
In the 18th century, the von Carlowitz family had a landscape garden laid out in the idyllic Grund with paths, grottos, bridges, and rest areas. Friends erected statues and inscription panels. But it soon fell into oblivion. Since 2007, the Röhrsdorf Heritage Association has been rebuilding it. The castle park is also almost shining again in its old beauty. Long panels, standing where the former orangery once was, provide information about the place, the tradition of fruit cultivation, and the castle’s history. The start and end of the route is the Saxon-Bohemian Farmers Market.
