  • Festivity
  • Tradition, customs & culture
With lanterns, St. Martin's songs, and St. Martin on horseback, the festive parade winds its way from the Königstein City Church to Malerwinkel.

Glowing lanterns, well-known St. Martin’s songs, and a story about sharing are all part of the traditional St. Martin’s procession in Königstein. Children, families, and anyone interested are invited to celebrate St. Martin’s Day together.

The evening begins at the Protestant City Church with the St. Martin’s story and group singing. Afterward, the lantern procession winds its way through the streets of Königstein to Malerwinkel. The procession is accompanied by a St. Martin on horseback.

A fire pit awaits participants at the destination. Here, St. Martin’s croissants are traditionally shared among one another. This gesture commemorates St. Martin, who, according to a well-known legend, shared his cloak with a freezing beggar.

Grilled sausages and drinks will be available for purchase. The St. Martin’s procession offers a wonderful opportunity to spend time together.
