NetzWERKE in Sebnitz – Connections Between the Loom and the Flower Table
For Open Monument Day on September 13, 2026, the Sebnitz Municipal Collections will open their complex of buildings at Hertigswalder Straße 12–14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Two 18th-century historic buildings—a burgher’s and publisher’s house from 1731 and a half-timbered weaver’s house from 1758—tell the story of the linen weaving craft that shaped Sebnitz between the 15th and 19th centuries. The architecture, original use, and later repurposing of these buildings demonstrate how closely craftsmanship, trade, and the urban landscape were intertwined: publishing, home-based work, and manufacturing formed a dense network of pathways, commissions, and interdependencies that extended all the way to the production of artificial flowers.
The guided tour “Interconnections” (10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., 45 minutes) introduces the complex consisting of the factor’s house and the weaver’s house. The city walking tour “From the Loom to the Flower Table” (12:30 p.m., 90 minutes) follows these traces through the city. The lecture “The Breath of the Stones” (3:30 p.m., 90 minutes) focuses on the residents, the use, and the renovation of the Baroque publishing house. The complex is wheelchair-accessible and barrier-free; admission is free.
