For 20 years, the Malerweg has wound its way through one of Germany’s most impressive landscapes. Even the Romantic-era painters were inspired by the unique light, the cliffs, the vastness, and the moments of tranquility—a fascination that continues to this day. To mark the anniversary, the Saxon Switzerland Tourism Association (Tourismusverband Sächsische Schweiz e. V.) launched the “Lichtblicke am Malerweg” photography contest. The award-winning photographs in the two categories—“The Malerweg Through the Changing Seasons” and “Historical Painters’ Views—Then and Now”—show Saxon Switzerland from a contemporary perspective—sometimes atmospheric and serene, sometimes powerful and vast.
