Singspiel by Ralph Benatzky
The fact that the revue-like arrangement of "Weiße Rössl" enjoyed resounding success worldwide from Berlin to Broadway in New York from 1930 onwards is thanks to the work's unique blend of Alpine coloring, Viennese sentimentality and Berlin humour. The Salzkammergut is a good place to be funny: Waiter Leopold adores his boss Josepha Vogelhuber ("It must be something wonderful..."), who in turn makes eyes at the lawyer Dr. Siedler, who in turn loves the attractive factory owner's daughter Ottilie ("My love song must be a waltz! "), whose father is pursued by Sigismund, the son of his worst business rival ("What can Sigismund do that he is so beautiful? "), whose heart beats for the delightfully lisping Miss Klärchen ...
One hit follows the next and in the end every pot finds its lid in "Im weißen Rössl"!
