Carmina Burana

"Carmina Burana" is based on Latin and Middle High German texts recorded around 1230 at the Benediktbeuern monastery. The “magical power” with which the coarse dance and drinking songs—as well as the tender spring and love songs—“overwhelmed” the composer is reflected in music characterized by rousing rhythms combined with refined simplicity. The powerful choral piece “O Fortuna,” which sings of the transience of fortune, frames the thematic sections “Spring,” “Tavern,” and “Love.”
