Bad Schandau Organ and Music Summer: Paris, London, and Beyond—Virtuoso Romantic Organ Music

Holger Gehring was born in Bielefeld in 1969 and received his early musical training there, studying with Herbert Wulf, among others. He studied church music at the conservatories in Lübeck (organ with Martin Haselböck, harpsichord with Hans-Jürgen Schnoor) and Stuttgart (organ and harpsichord with Jon Laukvik). He then studied artistic organ performance with Daniel Roth at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, followed by a soloist class in organ with Ludger Lohmann at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts. At the same time, he studied harpsichord, basso continuo, and early music ensemble with Jesper Christensen at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. He attended master classes with Marie-Claire Alain, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Andrea Marcon, and Michael Radulescu. He is a prize winner of several national and international competitions for organ repertoire performance and organ improvisation. Following his work in church music at the Friedenskirche in Ludwigsburg and as an assistant to the Württemberg State Church Music Director, he served as cantor at the Stadtkirche in Bad Hersfeld, as well as a lecturer at the Schlüchtern Center for Continuing Education in Church Music and an organ consultant for the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck. In 2004, he was appointed organist at the Kreuzkirche in Dresden, and in 2005, he was named organ consultant for the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony. Since September 2017, he has also served as custodian of the new concert hall organ at the Dresden Philharmonic in the Kulturpalast Dresden. In addition, he serves as a lecturer in organ repertoire performance and organ improvisation, as well as harpsichord accompaniment, at the State University of Music, the Dresden University of Church Music, and with the Dresden Kreuzchor. He is also the artistic director of the Schlosskonzerte in Reinhardtsgrimma and a lecturer at master classes and continuing education courses. Publications on organ performance and organ building, as well as CD, radio, and television recordings, complement his work. He regularly collaborates with renowned orchestras such as the Dresden Philharmonic and the musicians of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, and accompanies the Kreuzchor on its international concert tours. An active solo concert career as an organist and harpsichordist takes him throughout Germany and abroad.
