Tour description

  • Day 1: Individual arrival in Pirna
Due to good transport connections, traveling to Pirna by train or car is easily possible. Discounted parking spaces are available in the parking garage for the entire duration of the trip.
Stroll through the picturesque historic old town with its elaborately decorated townhouses and discover special details such as the Devil's and Angel's oriels. The Canaletto House is also located on the market square, taking its name from the creation of the painting "The Market Square in Pirna". The Saxon court painter Bernardo Bellotto, known as Canaletto, immortalized Pirna as the only small town ever in his works. Between 1753 and 1755, a total of eleven large city views were created. In the historic old town of Pirna, a good selection of restaurants awaits you, which will gladly serve you culinary delicacies of the region and pour Saxon wines. Overnight stay in Pirna
  • Day 2: Pirna - Bad Schandau  (approx. 45 km | 680 m elevation gain)
Warm-up with a rock view: Pirna is the ideal starting point to join the Rockhead gravel bike tour. First, the route follows the Elbe Cycle Path for a few kilometers to Obervogelgesang, the starting point of the Rockhead gravel bike tour.
With a noticeable incline, it goes to Krietzschwitz and Leupoldishain. A detour to the Nikolsdorf Walls gives a first impression of the impressive rock world in Saxon Switzerland. At the Leupoldishain Forest Experience Center, not only interesting nature experiences await, but also a panoramic view of the Königstein Fortress and the Lilienstein. The route continues via moderate gravel paths through the forest to Rosenthal, past the first rock formations, via Cunnersdorf and into the Krippenbach valley to Krippen. The last section leads a short distance back onto the Elbe Cycle Path and brings you relaxed to Bad Schandau. Overnight stay in Bad Schandau
  • Day 3: Bad Schandau - Sohland an der Spree  (approx. 60 km | 1,030 m elevation gain)
Wild Saxony: The Green Stage offers you a wonderful cycling stage through the quiet and untouched nature of the Saxon Switzerland National Park region, where the landscape continues to be characterized by impressive rock formations.
The stage starts in Bad Schandau, where you ride on narrow paths through the idyllic Schwarzbach valley. It continues along the narrow river "Sebnitz" to the town of Sebnitz of the same name. A special highlight is the observation tower on the Ungerberg near Neustadt. From here you have a great panoramic view over the rolling hills and the impressive table mountains. The route leads you out of the Saxon Switzerland region via Rugiswalde and Steinigtwolmsdorf right into the Upper Lusatian Highlands to Sohland an der Spree. Overnight stay in Sohland
  • Day 4: Sohland - Schirgiswalde - Stolpen  (approx. 45 km | 660 m elevation gain)
On the Spree Cycle Path, you ride along the Spree from Sohland to Schirgiswalde, where you join the Blue Stage of the Rockhead.
You ride through a varied hilly landscape until you reach the stage destination, the mountain town of Stolpen. With its imposing castle complex, a truly crowning finale. Overnight stay in Stolpen
  • Day 5: Stolpen - Stadt Wehlen - Pirna  (approx. 50 km | 250 m elevation gain)
From basalt into the Elbe valley: The last stage on the Rockhead begins with the rapid descent from Stolpen to the banks of the Wesenitz. The ride through the idyllic Wesenitz valley is one of the scenic highlights of the Rockhead gravel bike route.
Shortly before Dorf Wehlen, the last moderate ascent awaits you before descending swiftly into the Elbe valley to Stadt Wehlen. Here you can visit the cyclists' church on the market square and the Wehlen castle ruins with a fantastic view over the small town and the Elbe. On the route of the Elbe Cycle Path, you roll relaxed to Pirna, the starting point of your gravel adventure. Overnight stay in Pirna
  • Day 6: Individual departure from Pirna
