Tour Description

  • Day 1: Individual Arrival in Bad Schandau
You will travel individually to Bad Schandau. If you arrive early, you can take a round trip hike to and from Bad Schandau on your arrival day.
  • Day 2: Bad Schandau - Kirnitzschtal (approx. 13 km)
Your hike begins right in Bad Schandau at the historic passenger elevator, which transports you to the Ostrauer Plateau. Through the Zahnsgrund and the Lattengrund you reach the great Schramm Gate. The Jägersteig leads over ladders and steps to the Schrammsteine and the spectacular Schrammstein views. On the ridge path, you cross the Schrammsteine and follow the hiking trail into the rock labyrinth of the Affensteine. The rock plateau at the entrance to the Breiten Kluft offers a wonderful picnic spot to strengthen yourself a few meters off the route and enjoy the beautiful view. In the Affensteine area, the Carolafelsen with the magnificent Carola view, the highest peak of this rock formation, is reached. Those who prefer a leisurely descent into the Kirnitzschtal can follow the hiking trail via the Sandloch and the Lower Affenstein path into the Kirnitzschtal. Alternatively, you can follow the highly recommended route through the narrow gorge of the Wilde Hölle. This scenically special and unspoiled path leads quite challengingly on rocky ground downward and ends on an always damp stairway. In any case, good footing is required when traversing the Wilde Hölle. Upon reaching the Lower Affenstein path, the trail passes the imposing Bloßstock and continues on a gently descending path into the Kirnitzschtal. Ride back to your accommodation in Bad Schandau with the historic Kirnitzschtalbahn or the Wander Bus Line 241 (mobility is free with the guest card).
  • Day 3: Bad Schandau - Kirnitzschtal-Hinterhermsdorf (approx. 13 km)
Travel with the Wander Bus Line 241 or the Kirnitzschtalbahn to the Lichtenhainer Waterfall. You will hike to the famous Kuhstall rock arch, which is the second largest rock arch in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains after the Prebischtor. Heading south, leave the Kuhstall and hike on the Fremdenweg towards the smaller Winterberg. Past the Winterberg peaks, the path winds over numerous steps to the lower Fremdenweg. The effort is truly rewarded! From the Gleitmannshorn, a great panorama over the Bärenfangwände and the Winterstein to the nearby Bohemian Switzerland opens up. Via the Reitsteig, you reach the Roßsteig and the Goldstein view, and finally the Zeughaus. Follow the route marking Malerweg to the Großes Polshorn viewpoint and continue past the Kleine Polshorn along the upper Hirschwaldweg directly to the stage destination Hinterhermsdorf.
  • Day 4: Hinterhermsdorf - Vysoka Lipa /Hohen Leipa) (approx. 14 km)
From Hinterhermsdorf, hike past the Buchenparkhalle to the boat trip at the Upper Lock. On a short boat ride, you conveniently pass through the narrow rock gorge of the Kirnitzsch (cash payment on site approx. 7 euros per person). Alternatively, a beautiful path leads above the gorge to Hermannseck, from which you have an interesting view into the deep gorge. On a narrow path, the hiking trail winds through the Kirnitzschklamm to the Bärenhöhle. After crossing the Bärenhöhle in the Wolfsgrund, the hiking trail runs comfortably along the Kirnitzsch. As soon as the Rabensteine appear on the right, it is not far to the bridge over the Kirnitzsch. With the crossing of the bridge, you are in the Czech Republic. The forestry road continues with a slight incline through the Bohemian Switzerland National Park to Vysoka Lipa/Hohen Leipa.
  • Day 5: Vysoka Lipa (Hohen Leipa) - Circular Hike (approx. 17 km)
From Vysoka Lipa, head east along the rocks with views of the Dittersbach rock world. A narrow path leads partly over wooden and sandstone steps and short sections over iron bars to the summit. From here, you enjoy a wonderful panoramic view over Bohemian Switzerland to the Lusatian Mountains. Even more spectacular are the views from the Wilhelminenwand and the Marienfelsen. From the newly built wooden pavilion, a grand panorama of the pointed volcanic cones of Bohemian Switzerland opens up. The return path to Vysoka Lipa leads along the Bielebach from the Old Mill to the ruins of the Grundmühle. A truly crowning end to the day's stage is the view from the Schlossberg near Vysoka Lipa.
  • Day 6: Vysoka Lipa (Hohen Leipa) - Circular Hike (approx. 17 km)
Leave the small village of Vsoka Lipa for your next destination, the robber knight castle Schauenstein (Šaunštejn). Over iron ladders, walkways, and narrow rock crevices, you reach Schauenstein. However, the somewhat arduous ascent is rewarded with fantastic views over Bohemian Switzerland. Just a short half-hour from Schauenstein, you will find the small Prebischtor, which almost looks as if it were the model for its big sibling. From here, it goes a few more meters down the marked path to Mezni Louka. On the way to Hutberg, you will go through the Wild Gorge. Here you have the opportunity for a boat tour through the wild and romantic gorge (payment on site, about 100 CZK or 4 euros). A gradual ascent follows to Ruzova and further to Hutberg. On the Hutberg stands an extraordinary observation tower reminiscent of a lighthouse and fondly called Růženka (Little Rose). Past the second highest mountain in Bohemian Switzerland, the Rosenberg, the hike leads back into the heart of Bohemian Switzerland to the small village of Vysoká Lipa.
  • Day 7: Vysoka Lipa (Hohen Leipa) - Hrensko - Bad Schandau (approx. 17 km)
Leave Vysoka Lipa with the bus in direction of Hrensko (ticket complimentary from the hotel) to visit the probably most famous sight of Bohemian Switzerland, the Prebischtor. Your exit is at the Hrensko, Pravcicka brana (Prebischtor) stop. It takes about an hour to ascend the two kilometers to the Prebischtor. To reach the Prebischtor directly, an admission fee is required (pay on site). Upon arriving at the largest free-standing sandstone arch in Europe, you can refresh yourself in the restaurant and visit the many viewpoints that offer ever-newer impressive views over Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland. For the descent, follow the same route as you ascended and head towards Hrensko. In the border town Hrensko (Herrnskretschen), switch sides of the Elbe by ferry and hike to the 343-meter-high Wolfsberg and further through Reinhardtsdorf into the Krippenbach Valley to Bad Schandau.
  • Day 8: Individual Departure from Bad Schandau
