Winter walking holiday in Saxon Switzerland

• Depending on the weather, visitors to Saxon Switzerland should also be prepared for wintry conditions
• The paths are generally not cleared of snow and ice.
• The hike is undertaken at your own risk.
• For the tours, we recommend sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots and a small rucksack for provisions and rainwear.
• A good basic level of fitness, sure-footedness and a head for heights are required for this walking holiday.
• The complete list of booked accommodation is provided on the travel confirmation/invoice and will only be sent to the guest by post together with the relevant documents by the tour operator once the trip has been booked.
• Communication during the trip is available in the following languages: German and English.
• The trip is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility.

• The Saxon Switzerland Tourism Association acts solely as an intermediary for this trip.

• Day 1: Independent travel to Bad Schandau
  Use the afternoon for a short stroll through the tranquil spa town.
• Day 2: Grand Schrammstein circuit: Bad Schandau - Schrammsteine - Schmilka   (approx. 11 km, approx. 3.5 hours)
  Take the historic passenger lift (additional charge) up to Ostrau and enjoy the magnificent view over the Elbe Valley. Continue into the mystical forests of Saxon Switzerland. You will arrive in the winter village of Schmilka and take the S-Bahn back to Bad Schandau.
• Day 3: Lichtenhain circular trail: Bad Schandau - Lichtenhain Waterfall - Bad Schandau  (approx. 16 km, approx. 5 hours)
  Your day begins with a journey on the Kirnitzschtal tramway (additional charge) or by bus to Lichtenhain Waterfall. With a little luck and sufficiently frosty conditions, you can marvel at a unique work of ice art here. Continue hiking via the well-known Kuhstall rock arch and through the wintry Kirnitzsch Valley back to Lichtenhain Waterfall. From here, take the bus back to Bad Schandau.
• Day 4: Bad Schandau - Gohrisch - Königstein  (approx. 8 to 13 km, approx. 5 hours)
  Today’s hike takes you via Krippen into the “Realm of Stones”, as the region around Gohrisch is also known. If you wish, you can then enjoy a leisurely winter walk along the Gohrisch Folgenweg, taking in magnificent views along the way.
• Day 5: Cunnersdorf circular trail to Katzstein  (approx. 9 km, approx. 3 hours)
  From Cunnersdorf, begin your hike to Spitzstein and then continue to the Schneebergblick viewpoint. Enjoy the beautiful views of the Schrammsteine and Hoher Schneeberg before reaching Katzstein, the destination of today’s circular hike. You will once again stay overnight in the climatic health resort of Gohrisch.
• Day 6: Gohrisch - Königstein Fortress - Wehlen  (approx. 13 km, approx. 4 hours)
  Today’s winter hike initially takes you to Königstein. Pay a visit to its “impregnable” fortress. Afterwards, continue via Thürmsdorf and Kleiner Bärenstein towards Wehlen. From there, take the train to the spa town of Rathen.
• Day 7: Bastei circular hike  (approx. 9 km, approx. 3 hours)
  Today is entirely devoted to the famous Bastei. The day begins with the ascent to the Bastei rock formation. Continue via the Steinerner Tisch to Rathewalde. The route then leads you back to the Bastei, from where you descend to the spa town of Rathen.
