• For organisational reasons, this walking holiday can only be booked up to 7 days before the arrival date.
• For the walks, we recommend sturdy, ankle-high walking boots and a small rucksack for provisions and rainwear.
• A good basic level of fitness, sure-footedness and a head for heights are required for this walking holiday.
• The complete list of booked accommodation is included in the travel confirmation/invoice and will only be sent to the guest by post with the relevant documents after the holiday has been booked.
• Communication during the holiday is available in the following languages: German and English.
• This holiday is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility.
• German nationals must carry valid identity documents. All other travellers should observe the applicable passport and visa requirements. Your embassy will be pleased to provide further information.

• The Saxon Switzerland Tourism Association acts solely as an intermediary for this holiday.

• Day 1: Independent travel to Dresden
  We recommend taking a tour of Dresden and exploring the beautiful ‘Florence on the Elbe’. Overnight stay in Dresden
• Day 2: Stadt Wehlen - Hohnstein (approx. 11 km,  approx. 4 hrs)
  In the morning, travel by S-Bahn and bus to Stadt Wehlen, the starting point of your first hike along the Malerweg (journey time: approx. 40 minutes). You will hike to the most famous viewpoint in Saxon Switzerland – the Bastei Bridge. You will then descend into the Amselgrund valley and head towards the second highlight of the day – the Hockstein. The Wolfsschlucht gorge leads you into the Polenztal valley, below the town of Hohnstein and its castle.
• Day 3: Hohnstein - Altendorf/Kirnitzschtal/Kirnitzschtal (approx. 15 km, approx. 6 hrs)
  The Schindergraben gorge leads you past the Gautschgrotte cave. The Brand viewpoint, reached after the first third of the route, is today's highlight. You will then descend more than 800 steps into the Tiefen Grund valley and continue via Waitzdorf to Altendorf or the Kirnitzschtal valley. Subject to availability, you will stay overnight in Altendorf, the Kirnitzschtal valley or Bad Schandau.
• Day 4: Altendorf/Kirnitzschtal/Bad Schandau – Schrammsteine – Neumannmühle (approx. 18.5 km, approx. 6.5 hrs)
  Take the direct uphill route to the Schrammsteine viewpoint and follow the ridge trail through the Schrammstein massif. Passing the Grosser Dom and Kleiner Dom rock formations, you will reach the Affenstein trail. This takes you as far as the Lichtenhain Waterfall. Continue via the Kuhstall rock formation to today's destination, the historic Neumannmühle mill. Return by bus to the Kirnitzschtal valley or Bad Schandau.
• Day 5: Neumannmühle – Grosser Winterberg – Schmilka/Krippen (approx. 13.5 km, approx. 5.5 hrs)
  In the morning, take the bus to the start of today's stage – Neumannmühle. Hike through the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz region to the Zeughaus. Shortly afterwards, the breathtaking Goldstein viewpoint and the ascent of the Grosser Winterberg await you. On the way to Schmilka, you should plan a detour to the Kipphorn viewpoint. In Schmilka, take the ferry across the Elbe and travel by S-Bahn to your overnight accommodation in Krippen. Alternatively, walk a further 8 km along the Malerweg.
• Day 6: Schmilka/Krippen – Kurort Gohrisch (approx. 17 km, approx. 6.5 hrs)
  Take the S-Bahn back to Schmilka. Today, enjoy above all the view of the right bank of the Elbe and the Schrammstein massif. During the final quarter of the route, you will climb the Papststein and Gohrisch before reaching today's overnight destination, Kurort Gohrisch.
• Day 7: Kurort Gohrisch – Königstein (approx. 9 km, approx. 4 hrs)
  This short stage takes you across the Pfaffenstein, with its Barbarine rock pinnacle, and past the Diebskeller cave to your hotel at the foot of Königstein Fortress. There is still time to visit the ‘impregnable’ Königstein Fortress before returning by S-Bahn to your accommodation in Pirna or Dresden
• Day 8: Independent return journey from Dresden
