• Day 1: Independent arrival in Dessau
  The city of Dessau is associated with no fewer than three UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Bauhaus, the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz and the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve.
  Culture and nature therefore await you in equal measure. Further highlights include the technology museum on the site of the former Junkers aircraft and engine works, as well as the Kurt Weill Centre in the Feininger Masters’ House.
  Overnight stay in Dessau
• Day 2: Dessau – Lutherstadt Wittenberg (approx. 40 km)
  From Dessau, the cycle route takes you through the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz. Palaces and parks are embedded in this cultural landscape alongside meadows, forests and lakes.
  Just beyond Dessau city centre lies one of the most idyllic estates: Luisium Palace and Park, once the country residence of Princess Louise of Anhalt-Dessau. The route continues through flat floodplains along the Elbe Cycle Route to Wittenberg, the cradle of the Reformation. There is much to discover on a stroll through Lutherstadt. Explore the castle and All Saints’ Castle Church or follow the historical trail at the Luther House, Melanchthon House or Cranach House.

• Day 3: Lutherstadt Wittenberg – Torgau (approx. 70 km)
  The cycle route takes you directly along the Elbe to Elster, where a brief stop to visit the historic post mill is recommended.
  After Listerfehrda, the cycle route moves slightly away from the river before rejoining it near Klöden. From the small village of Pretzsch, you can already see Torgau’s Renaissance castle in the distance. You cycle past the boatmen’s church in Priesitz to Dommitzsch. From here, the route follows the Elbe dyke to Torgau. In the 16th century, the town was the political centre of Saxony and the Reformation. Follow in the footsteps of this era and visit Hartenfels Castle, for example, the largest fully preserved early Renaissance castle in Germany.

• Day 4: Torgau – Riesa/Moritz (approx. 50 km)
  After leaving Torgau, the cycle route takes you alongside fields and through small villages to Belgern.
  Along the way, you cycle through the village of Weßnig, home to Germany’s first cyclists’ church. In Belgern, the almost six-metre-high Roland statue made of Elbe sandstone awaits you directly beside the town hall. You follow the cycle route along the Elbe to Strehla. This small, romantic town invites you to linger. In addition to visiting the late Gothic town church, you should plan an excursion to the Nixstein rock on the Elbe. Numerous myths surround this broad granite rock, which once posed a hazard to shipping. From Strehla, you cycle along the Elbe Cycle Route to Riesa, now renowned as a centre of sport

• Day 5: Riesa/Moritz – Meissen (approx. 30 km)
  From Diesbar-Seußlitz, you follow the Saxon Wine Route through the picturesque landscape of the Elbe wine villages.
  Welcoming wine taverns invite you to linger throughout one of Germany’s smallest wine-growing regions. In Meissen, we recommend a visit to the Porcelain Museum. Europe’s first porcelain manufactory was founded in the town in 1710, initially producing its wares at Albrechtsburg Castle, and remains a world leader to this day. Demonstration workshops invite you to experience the craftsmanship at close quarters. A stroll through the historic old town and a visit to the cathedral and Albrechtsburg Castle round off your stay.
  Overnight stay in Meissen
• Day 6: Meissen – Dresden (approx. 30 km)
  Following the Saxon Wine Route, you travel past Coswig and through Radebeul to Dresden.
  The town of Radebeul, also known as the ‘Saxon Nice’ owing to its mild climate, is renowned for its many villas. Alongside two villa districts, it also boasts eight historic village centres that invite exploration and leisurely visits. Meanwhile, you can follow in the footsteps of Winnetou at the Karl May Museum. The route continues to Dresden, where the city’s famous skyline welcomes you. In the historic old town, one landmark follows another. The Zwinger, the Royal Palace, the Semperoper, the Frauenkirche, the Historic Green Vault and the many museums keep the city’s history alive.

• Day 7: Dresden – Bad Schandau (approx. 45 km)
  You leave Dresden and cycle past the three Elbe castles and the »Blue Wonder« bridge to Pillnitz.
  Magnificent Pillnitz Palace, with its extensive park and once the summer residence of Saxony’s royal family, is considered Europe’s most important chinoiserie palace complex. A rare camellia tree more than 200 years old stands in the artfully landscaped park. Your tour then continues to Pirna. Shortly beyond the town, you will see the first sandstone cliffs and table mountains that give Saxon Switzerland its unique character. You conclude your tour amid this bizarre rocky landscape in the spa town of Bad Schandau.
