Cycling tour along the Elbe Cycle Route

• For organisational reasons, this cycling tour can only be booked up to 7 days before the arrival date.
• The complete list of booked accommodation is provided on the booking confirmation/invoice and will only be sent to the guest by email with the travel documents by the tour operator after the trip has been booked.
• Communication during the trip is available in the following languages: German and English.
• The trip is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility.

• Day 1: Individual arrival in Dresden
  Begin your cycling holiday in fitting style: Dresden offers ideal conditions for doing so, as the city, often affectionately known as the "Florence on the Elbe", provides a wide range of attractions for culture enthusiasts, active travellers and night owls alike. A stroll through the Baroque old town, a visit to the Semperoper or an ascent to the dome of the Frauenkirche could therefore be the perfect introduction to your holiday on the Elbe.
  Overnight stay in Dresden
• Day 2: Stay in Dresden or excursion to Bad Schandau (approx. 45 km + train journey)
  Today you have the opportunity to explore the city of Dresden. Alternatively, we recommend taking the S-Bahn to Bad Schandau in the morning. You can then enjoy a leisurely cycle beneath some of Saxon Switzerland's most famous sights, such as the Bastei rock formation in Rathen and Königstein Fortress. Before long, you will reach Pillnitz, home to its renowned palace. Passing the three Elbe castles, you will arrive in Baroque Dresden.

• Day 3: Dresden – Meissen (approx. 28 km)
  As beautiful as Dresden is, the surrounding area also offers much to explore. Today, therefore, you will mount your bicycle and follow wonderfully maintained paths past Radebeul, the town associated with Karl May, towards Meissen. En route, those who find 30 kilometres too short may wish to take a detour to Augustus the Strong's hunting lodge in Moritzburg and its picturesque surroundings. Back on the Elbe Cycle Route, you will continue to Meissen alongside the vineyards of the Elbe region and past several magnificent residences and castles along the river. The town's landmark greets you from afar: Castle Hill with its cathedral and Albrechtsburg Castle. The porcelain manufactory, which brought Meissen worldwide fame, is also well worth a visit. For the evening, we recommend a wine tasting, as Meissen is the centre of Germany's north-easternmost wine-growing region.

• Day 4: Meissen – Riesa area (approx. 28-36 km)
  Today's cycle tour takes you from Meissen along the Elbe Cycle Route to Riesa. Here, too, you will marvel at the beautiful castles along the Elbe, some of which open their doors to visitors. Do not hesitate to venture beyond their magnificent entrance gates! Riesa itself offers a particularly appetising attraction: a visit to the Pasta Museum will teach you all about the many varieties of pasta. If you are in Riesa on a weekday, you may even have the opportunity to see the local pasta producer's manufacturing process in operation.

• Day 5: Riesa area – Torgau (approx. 40-49 km)
  Tranquil, expansive meadows along the Elbe, detours into the surrounding countryside and small villages… today's stage is highly varied! You will soon reach Belgern, home to the only Roland statue in Saxony. From here, it is not far to today's destination on your Elbe cycling tour: the Renaissance town of Torgau. Hartenfels Castle and its castle church are well worth visiting. The latter is regarded as Germany's first purpose-built Protestant church and was consecrated by Martin Luther.

• Day 6: Torgau – Lutherstadt Wittenberg (approx. 70 km)
  At the beginning of today's cycle tour, the Elbe will remain at your side before, after approximately 10 km, you briefly leave the river and follow the Elbe Cycle Route inland. Passing a branch of the Old Elbe, you will soon reach Pretzsch, a town with a history spanning more than 1,000 years. With its Renaissance-era Pretzsch Castle, the town church of "St Nicholas", the Wieck House and the local history museum, this small town on the Elbe offers plenty to make for an interesting cycling break. From here, you can continue your tour along the Elbe Cycle Route on either the left or right bank, as both the main route and its alternative are very well signposted. With views of the Elbe, you will soon cycle into Lutherstadt Wittenberg. The town is inextricably linked with Martin Luther and offers several historic sights.

• Day 7: Lutherstadt Wittenberg – Dessau (approx. 40 km)
  Today's stage to Dessau first takes you to the world-famous Wörlitz park and garden realm, where a 100-hectare estate featuring islands, canals, temples and sculptures invites you to linger. In the afternoon, you will reach the final destination of your cycling holiday: Dessau. Architecture enthusiasts will find much to appreciate here, as the Bauhaus style became established in the city under Walter Gropius.

• Day 8: Individual return journey or transfer service to Dresden
  An eventful cycling tour from Dresden to Dessau lies behind you. On the eighth day of your cycling holiday, you will begin your journey home or use our transfer service back to Dresden.
