Thea Lehmann: Flowers for a New World

Journalist and author Thea Lehmann presents her novel “Blossoms for a New World.” The story takes place in Dresden and Sebnitz, where numerous Bohemian “flower girls” craft silk flowers from fabric, wire, and paste.

The story centers on Carla. She works as a flower maker, develops her own ideas, and seeks a path to self-employment. The novel tells the story of two women who run a silk flower factory in Sebnitz. It explores the emerging labor and women’s movements, economic growth, travel, love, and friendship.

The reading will be accompanied by a multi-course meal. The meal will include a welcome drink, an appetizer from the kitchen, beet soup, guinea fowl breast with side dishes, and a dessert featuring quince and chocolate.
