The Swedes are coming—what to do?! An open-air amateur play shows how the apothecary Theophilus Jacobäer saved his town of Pirna from being pillaged and burned.

Every year in September, on the weekend of Heritage Day, the events surrounding the city’s rescue during the Thirty Years’ War are commemorated in Pirna with the help of a dedicated association that puts on an amateur theater production.

The play’s plot depicts the events of September 1639, when a rumor spread that General Banér—commander of the Swedish besiegers—would burn the city of Pirna to the ground upon his withdrawal. All the citizens’ pleas and entreaties were to no avail. Can the city still be saved?
