Bergsingen—The Original on the Malerweg

Once a year, people from Papstdorf, Kleinhennersdorf, Gohrisch, and far beyond flock to the meadow at the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein. That’s because on this day, the Saxon Mountaineers’ Choir “Kurt Schlosser” from Dresden invites everyone to its traditional mountain singing event—on foot; cars are left behind.

Hours before the 4:00 p.m. concert, the first visitors are already finding spots in the sun. Visitors have long been coming from other German states and the Czech Republic as well, and travel agencies capitalize on the event’s appeal. Around 5,000 to 6,000 guests experience how singing, nature, and community come together in a unique triad. Today, the Mountain Singing is considered the highlight of Saxon Switzerland—down-to-earth, without microphones or technology.

Discipline and respect for nature go without saying: no trash, no traces left behind. Enthusiastic songs, a zest for life, and hearty applause echo through the mountains. And the choir? It is carried by the audience’s warmth.
