The Malerweg for Insiders
In cooperation with the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden and the National Park and Forestry Administration, anniversary tours will take place on the Malerweg from March through October 2026, offering visitors the chance to experience the famous hiking trail from a new perspective. Once a month, on Sundays, participants will set out on a selected stage of the trail accompanied by an expert guide. Each tour will be led by a representative of the National Park and Forest Administration.

The hike on Stage 8 will be led by:

  • Madlen Rogge, Project Manager for the Malerweg/Hiking, Marketing
  • Hartmut Schippers, District Manager, National Park and Forest Administration, Sachsenforst, Gohrisch District

A guided tour of the Robert Sterl House in Naundorf is planned, followed by a visit to the “Ansichtssache” gallery and workshop in Pirna.

Meeting Point / Start + Finish:
Thürmsdorf bus stop, Gasthaus
Start: 9:15 a.m.
End: approx. 5:00 p.m. in Pirna, Market Square


Hiking route: Thürmsdorf – Thieleaussicht – Weißig – Rauenstein – Rauenstein Ridge Trail – Wehlen-Pötzscha – Naundorf - Robert-Sterl-Haus - Königsnase - Obervogelgesang - Elbe Bike Path - Pirna - Canaletto Trail - Pirna Market Square - Canaletto House

  • Total distance: approx. 18 km
  • Elevation gain: approx. 297 m uphill / 365 m downhill
  • Note: This stage is hiked in its entirety.
  • Good physical condition, general fitness, sure-footedness, and a head for heights are required.
  • Please bring enough drinks and snacks for yourself. There are no planned stops for refreshments.
