Program

In a highly entertaining and original way, Uwaga! sheds light on arguably the most influential figure in Western musical culture: Johann Sebastian Bach

“A breathtaking, high-octane ride that has the audience on the edge of their seats,” wrote the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger about a performance by the band Uwaga!; the Westdeutsche Zeitung reported on “a volcanic eruption of virtuosity.” Superlatives are often—and rightly so—used when describing Uwaga!, who took their name from a trip through Poland (the word means “Attention!” and can be found everywhere on street signs). Crossing musical boundaries has long been second nature to the four musicians. They continually reassemble their individual influences and preferences, thereby creating their own colorful musical world that spans classical, jazz, pop, and Balkan music.

Johann Sebastian Bach remains a central point of reference in their artistic work: early on, and independently of one another, all the musicians encountered his music, which continues to provide inspiration for experimentation and their own ideas to this day. In the program “Bach to the Roots,” Uwaga! explores what is arguably the most influential figure in Western musical culture.
