From Nikolsdorf, the path continues variedly through the Biela valley onto the plateau of the Quirl, up to the proud peaks of the Gohrisch and Papststein and finally over the quietly dreamy Kleinhennersdorfer Stein to the station in Bad Schandau.
In April 2018, Sachsenforst and Lesy České republiky opened the trekking route planned for 5 years. As forest administrations of the Free State of Saxony and the Czech Republic, we want to bring people closer to nature with the "Forststeig Elbsandstein" project.
The trekking route allows visitors in the months from April to October to hike cross-border and away from settlements through the forests on the border of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic for several days. Along the way, it is possible to stay overnight in trekking huts and at bivouac sites of Sachsenforst as well as with tourist partners. On the Czech side, there is a public campground directly on the route.
The Forststeig Elbsandstein is a demanding trekking route for experienced, sure-footed, and well-equipped hikers. It leads on the left side of the Elbe mostly on simple forest paths and ways as well as on forestry work tracks over 100 km in 7 stages through unique landscapes of Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland, known for its extensive contiguous forests, bizarre rock formations, and mighty table mountains.
