From the Beutwald, the forest trail enters the bizarre rock landscape of the Biela Valley, crossing the valley side several times and winding along the terrain edge to the south again. It continues on old border paths and forest trails to the Rotsteinhütte.
In April 2018, Sachsenforst and Lesy České republiky opened the trekking route that had been planned for 5 years. As forestry administrations of the Free State of Saxony and the Czech Republic, we want to bring people closer to nature with the "Forststeig Elbsandstein" project.
The trekking route allows visitors from April to October to hike for several days across the border and away from settlements through the forests on the border of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic. Along the way, it is possible to stay overnight in trekking huts and on bivouac sites of Sachsenforst as well as with tourism partners. On the Czech side, there is a public campsite directly on the route.
The Forststeig Elbsandstein is a demanding trekking route for experienced, sure-footed, and well-equipped hikers. It runs mostly on simple forest paths and tracks on the left bank of the Elbe as well as on forest management work trails over 100 km in 7 stages through unique landscapes of the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland, known for its extensive contiguous forests, bizarre rock formations, and mighty table mountains.
