Three highlights await on the stage from Rotsteinhütte to Nikolsdorf: the little-known Schneeberg view at Katzstein, the panoramic view on the Lampertsstein, and the Nikolsdorf rock labyrinth.

In April 2018, Sachsenforst and Lesy České republiky opened the trekking route that had been planned for 5 years. As forestry administrations of the Free State of Saxony and the Czech Republic, we want to bring people closer to nature with the “Forststeig Elbsandstein” project.

The trekking route allows visitors from April to October to hike several days cross-border and away from settlements through the forests at the border of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic. It is possible to overnight in trekking huts and at bivouac sites of Sachsenforst as well as at tourist partners. On the Czech side, there is a public campsite directly on the route.

The Forststeig Elbsandstein is a challenging trekking route for experienced, sure-footed, and well-equipped hikers. It leads mainly on the left bank of the Elbe mostly on simple forest paths and tracks as well as on forestry work lanes over 100 km in 7 stages through unique landscapes of the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland, known for its extensive contiguous forests, bizarre rock formations, and mighty table mountains.
