On this route, you can discover some sights, such as the Baroque Garden Großsedlitz, Weesenstein Castle, or Kuckuckstein Castle. You will pass picturesque villages. However, this route mostly runs along busy roads that do not have separate bike paths.
You start the Castles Route from the S-Bahn stop Heidenau/Großsedlitz heading towards B172, which you will also cross. The path continues on the right via Apfelallee. A challenging, difficult ascent awaits you. The path leads you directly to Großsedlitz to the Baroque Garden, one of Germany's most famous baroque gardens from the time of Augustus the Strong. At the next intersection, cross straight ahead onto Neubauernweg. Upon reaching the nursery, turn right onto a gravel path that shortly forks into two descents. Please keep left here on Schilfteichweg. This leads you to Dohna, the second oldest town in Saxony. At the end of Schilfteichweg, turn onto Weesensteiner Straße into the Müglitz valley. At the next intersection, keep left and follow Altenberger Straße to Weesenstein. Soon you will see the impressive and romantic 800-year-old Weesenstein Castle. Continue on Altenberger Straße to the left turn to Burkhardswalde (at the railway station). After mastering the steep and long ascent, you pass through Burkhardswalde towards Großröhrsdorf. In Seitenhain, turn left into the Seidewitz valley. A great descent awaits you here. Please note that the descent ends with a steep slope, so start braking a few meters beforehand as a precaution. At the intersection, turn right towards Liebstadt. Kuckuckstein Castle in Liebstadt is picturesquely situated on a rocky outcrop above the Seidewitz river valley. Now you follow the same path along the Seidewitz stream back towards Pirna. Here you can really enjoy the bike ride as the route to Pirna leads exclusively downhill. It passes the old country house Zuschendorf, which shines in baroque splendor. At the next large intersection, turn left onto Zehistaer Straße to Pirna and then follow the Einsteinstraße on the left up to B172. Cross this and turn left via Maxim-Gorki-Straße to the bus and S-Bahn station.
