Small local history museum with local history, diorama of the Battle of Maxen, geological features and regional culture in the Müglitz Valley.
The local history of Maxen is shown in four exhibition rooms. A diorama with over 1,000 pewter figures illustrates the battle of 1759. Documents, coins and weapons complete the display.
Another focus is on lime and marble mining. A model of a historic lime kiln from 1856 illustrates the former economic importance of the region.
The exhibition also recalls the patronage of the owner of the manor, Friedrich Anton Serre, who invited artists such as Hans Christian Andersen, Raden Saleh and Clara and Robert Schumann to Maxen in the 19th century.
Special exhibitions and guided tours for groups are available by prior arrangement.
