Blue cottage Maxen (Müglitztal)

Short facts

Historic Javanese-style pavilion above the Müglitz Valley near Maxen, only accessible during events or on request.

The Blue House was built in 1848 as an oriental-style garden pavilion. The Javanese painter Raden Saleh was involved in its design. The small building is considered a special architectural feature in the region.

The pavilion is privately owned and is not a regularly accessible museum. Visits are only possible on special occasions such as Open Monument Day or by prior arrangement. Guided tours and cultural programs are occasionally offered.

The Häusel is located on a slope between Maxen and Mühlbach and can only be reached on foot. Paths lead either from Mühlbach via a path uphill or from Maxen via the Winzerweg and the Kirschbaumallee.
