Kaiser-Wilhelm-Feste (viewpoint)

Short facts

  • Rosenthal-Bielatal
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower,…

Impressive viewpoint with a small building in the Bielatal valley.

The Kaiser Wilhelm Fortress was built in 1880 as a sandstone viewing platform. It is located above the Biela Valley and is reminiscent of a small castle complex.

It was built as part of the development of the Biela Valley for tourism.
This artificial bastion was built by the Rosenthal master builder J.G. Kaiser in 1880 in keeping with the taste of the time.

The story of its origins is a curiosity - the idea to build it is said to have originated from a beer-fueled regulars' table bet, hence the name, which has nothing to do with "Kaiser Wilhelm"!

From the vantage point, you have a magnificent view of the rocks in the Bielatal valley. The Kaiser Wilhelm Fortress can be reached via well-maintained hiking trails. If you are hiking in snow, you should remember to bring a pair of hiking boots. Spikes for a firm grip are available for hire at the Aktivzentrum Bad Schandau.
