Picturesque view of the Elbe and Königstein Fortress
The Thiele viewpoint is located on the southern edge of Thürmsdorf. From here, there is a sweeping view over the Elbe valley as far as Königstein Fortress and the Lilienstein. The location is named after the landscape painter Johann Alexander Thiele, who captured Königstein Fortress in a painting in the 18th century.
The mausoleum of the von Biedermann family stands right next to the viewpoint. It was built in 1920 as a burial place and later used as a chapel. The small sandstone rotunda stands free in the landscape and is part of the historical traces around Thürmsdorf Castle. It has since been converted into a Malerweg chapel.
The path to the view is well developed. It leads through the open fields on the edge of the village and is also accessible for people with limited mobility. Benches and a table are ideal for a picnic with a view.
