Neumannmühle - Technical monument

Short facts

Historic cutting and groundwood mill from the 19th century, today a technical monument with original water wheel and show workshop in the Kirnitzsch valley.

The Neumann Mill, located at the mouth of the Großer Zschand, is the only mill in the Kirnitzschtal valley that still has almost its original appearance. It is said to have stood here as a cutting mill as early as the 14th century. It has been owned by the Neumann family since 1791.

The preserved wooden grinder dates back to 1870. The undershot mill wheel has a diameter of 4.60 m (water power 15-18 hp). Until around 1955, the sawmill was used to produce timber for construction, use and firewood.

Since 1997, the facility has been accessible to visitors to the Kirnitzschtal valley as a technical monument. The production of groundwood pulp, a basic material for paper production, is on display.
