A striking table mountain and rewarding panoramic peak in the heart of Saxon Switzerland.
Several hiking trails lead to the summit plateau, including steep stairways. The ascent via the Falkenschlucht gorge through the middle of a narrow crevice is adventurous. Once at the top, there are various viewpoints offering views of neighboring mountains such as the Papststein, Pfaffenstein and Lilienstein.
On the eastern side of the Gohrisch is an old soapstone tunnel, which is now disused. In the surrounding area, traces of a small basalt quarry bear witness to earlier uses of the rock.
Gohrisch is easy to reach and is located directly on several popular hiking trails. Its location makes it particularly suitable for day trips or as a stopover on longer tours. Gohrisch is part of the sixth stage of the famous Malerweg, one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany.
This table mountain is a popular photo spot, especially at sunrise or sunset at the viewpoints at the pavilion in the east and at the weather vane in the west.
Special care is required in snow and icy conditions. Grödel poles, which are strapped under the hiking boots, provide more grip. These can be hired from the Bad Schandau activity center, among other places.
