Schrammstein view

Short facts

  • Bad Schandau
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower,…

Sweeping panoramic views over the rugged rock massif of the Schrammsteine - a classic viewpoint in Saxon Switzerland.

The Schrammsteine form an elongated, heavily jagged group of rocks to the east of Bad Schandau. They are bordered by the Kirnitzsch Valley, the Elbe Valley and the Winterberg.

Three mighty, vertical rock incisions - the so-called Schrammtore - break through the rock and are impressive evidence of millions of years of weathering.

The view lies above the Vordere Schrammsteine at an altitude of around 417 meters. The view extends across the Elbe valley to Falkenstein, Lilienstein, Affensteinen and Winterberg. Access is via well-marked hiking trails such as the Wildschützensteig or the Jägersteig.

At sunset, there is a particularly atmospheric play of light. The site is freely accessible all year round and is one of the most popular photo spots in the region.

Hiking tips:
 Ridge hike on the Schrammsteine
circular hike from Bad Schandau to the Schrammsteinaussicht and back via the Breite Kluft to Bad Schandau
