The Protestant-Lutheran garrison church of St. George on Königstein Fortress is a castle chapel with murals on the altar from the 13th century.
The original Romanesque castle chapel was consecrated as St. George's Chapel in 1676. It is considered to be Saxony's first garrison church and was the spiritual center for the soldiers stationed at the fortress for centuries.
The church was reconsecrated in 2000 after extensive renovations. The simple hall building was integrated into the fortress architecture.
The Jehmlich organ is at the center of the interior. On certain dates, "Sunday music" takes place here - short 15-minute concerts that give visitors a musical impression of the space.
The church can only be accessed via the grounds of Königstein Fortress. It is part of the regular sightseeing tour.
