Königstein Fortress: historic mountain fortress with various exhibitions and magnificent views
Nestled in the fairytale-like rocky landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the once impregnable fortification towers 247 meters above the Elbe valley. The 9.5-hectare rocky plateau can be seen from afar. The large permanent exhibition "IN LAPIDE REGIS - 800 years of life on Königstein" on the history of Königstein Fortress provides interesting information about the unique ensemble of more than 50 imposing buildings from different eras. In addition, there are special exhibitions that change every year.
The 1.7 km long tour along the ring wall offers a fascinating view of the wintry Elbe valley and, with a bit of luck, Saxon Switzerland covered in light snow. Königstein Fortress is famous for its beautiful Christmas market.
