Weesenstein – a winter dream

Winter Wonder Land in Müglitztal Valley

What a majestic sight: Weesenstein Castle towering on a mighty cliff above Müglitztal Valley, considered to be Saxony’s most beautiful valley. There is a special magic about this place particularly in the winter months. Whereas from the outside the castle looks asleep, behind its walls there is vibrant life. Many events and guided tours attract numerous visitors. Readings and concerts in the Advent time, the kids’ New Year’s Eve party, which is popular with the whole family, Weesenstein Witches’ Carnival as well as exhibitions and matinées all provide cultural highlights in the outskirts of Saxon Switzerland and Eastern Ore Mountains.

The particular charm of the Rammenau Baroque Palace lies in its harmonious blending of baroque architecture and neoclassical decoration, enhanced by its idyllic surrounding landscape. The palace is a place of interest in the cold season, too. Gourmets will appreciate breakfast and brunch offers or cooking events in historic atmosphere. The little ones can enjoy special guided tours for kids. A yearly event at Christmastime is St. Nicolas Arts and Crafts market organized in cooperation with local enterprises.
