Langenhennersdorfer Waterfall

Short facts

  • Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel
  • Natural monument, Information…

With a free fall height of approx. 9 metres, it is the highest natural waterfall in Saxon Switzerland.

The Langehennersdorfer Dorfbach flows over further cascades and under the S174 into the lower lying Gottleuba.

The falling water has buried itself deep into the Elbe sandstone, a remarkable achievement, especially as the waterfall is more of a trickle than a torrent today, depending on the weather..

Near the road is the stone round table with 7 small boulders - a small reference to the legend of the Quarkse from the Cottaer Spitzberg (see Legend Book of Saxon Switzerland by Alfred Meiche). They are said to have inhabited the dwarf cave. Irregular steps lead to this narrow rock crevice, which is actually a quarry cave. Here, the joy of discovery is awakened in little hikers  - don't forget a torch!

Unfortunately, the waterfall can only be reached directly from the parking bay on the state road 174, drive out of the centre of the village in the direction of Pirna, after the last residential building approx. 400m., there are no forest paths or even hiking trails leading to the destination.
