Šluknov (Schluckenau), the northernmost town in the Czech Republic, is justifiably proud of its landmark, the newly reconstructed Renaissance chateau .
After a major castle fire in 1986 and twenty years of decay, the city succeeded in renovating the building step by step and finally ceremoniously reopened the castle. This happened in September 2006. After that, a new floor was opened every year at the castle festival. Today, there is also a sightseeing tour in the chateau, during which almost all rooms, including the historical rooms with original exhibits, are open to visitors.
The Schluckenau chateau houses a permanent exhibition of the Association of Imperial and Royal War Veterans of the Bohemian Crown Lands - Schluckenauer Zipfel, War Veterans and the First World War. The building also houses the Forestry Museum with a permanent exhibition. On the ground floor of the chateau, a regional information centre with public internet is available to tourists and visitors to the town. Food and drinks are offered by the cosy castle pastry shop with regional products.
