The Pfaffenstein is a monumental table mountain near Königstein.
The ascent leads via several paths, including the eye of the needle with narrow passages and ladders. The plateau is around twelve hectares in size and features crevices, caves, sacrificial cauldrons and viewpoints.
On the southern edge of the massif stands the 43-metre-high Barbarine, one of the most famous rock needles in the region. It is considered a landmark of Saxon Switzerland.
In 1904, a stone observation tower was erected on the summit. After a long closure, it was made accessible again in 1995. The mountain inn still caters to hikers and day trippers today.
Popular photo motifs for photographers include the Barbarine, views of the Gohrisch to the east or the Lilienstein, ideally at sunrise.
