National park information point Schmilka

Short facts

Information point in the old forester's lodge - with exciting insights into rock climbing, nature conservation and the coexistence of man and nature in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

This small information point of the Saxon Switzerland National Park is located in the former forester's lodge on the outskirts of Schmilka, in the direction of Großer Winterberg. The exhibition is dedicated to rock climbing in the region and the question of how this traditional sport can be practised in harmony with nature conservation.

The exhibition focuses on the developments of the past decades, the voluntary commitment of many climbers and the importance of rock-friendly and nature-friendly behavior. The information point shows that the relationship between climbing and protected areas was discussed early on among mountaineers - partly out of conviction, partly at the instigation of the authorities.

The exhibition is aimed at climbers, hikers and nature lovers alike and provides practical insights into the sensitive coexistence of people and nature in the national park.
