Beautiful vantage point near the climbing facility

The Holy Staircase is an approximately 190-metre-high climb that leads from Heringsgrund up to the Reitsteig on the Affenstein massif. The route consists of around 900 wooden and steel steps and was originally built in the 19th century. In the 1950s, it was extensively renovated with sturdy components.

Despite the difference in altitude, the staircase is easy to walk. It is also suitable for hikers without climbing experience. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Special care and appropriate aids are recommended in snow and icy conditions.

Once at the top, there is an open view of the Elbe valley, the Schrammsteine and the densely wooded surroundings of the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz. Further panoramic views open up along the way, inviting you to take short breaks.
