Cave on the way to Pfaffenstein

On the way to Pfaffenstein is the Goldschmidt Cave, where the 34-year-old wanted paper money forger Friedrich Eduard Goldschmidt is said to have hidden in 1854. However, it is suspected that he hid more in the Falkenhöhle, which is 50 metres to the south. At the time, his brother-in-law managed the mountain inn on the Pfaffenstein and catered for Goldschmidt. In November 1854, Goldschmidt was arrested in Dresden and sentenced to seven years in prison for counterfeiting money and his brother-in-law was sentenced to three years in prison for distributing these flowers.
In the cave named after him, emerald green luminescent moss can also be found in a sheltered spot.
