Book presentation with Petra Laurin and Jan Šebelka. Moderation Hana Romahn (EEL)
Pupils from Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Pirna recite selected legends in German and Czech, bringing the heritage of this fascinating region to life. Krakonoš, Rübezahl, Liczyrzepa - the mysterious ruler of the Giant Mountains is a multifaceted figure who is known by many names and symbolizes the wild, mystical nature of this border region. In the bilingual book by Petra Laurin and Jan Šebelka, lovingly illustrated by Monika Hanika, this legendary mountain spirit shows a darker, mysterious side: moody, powerful and fascinating at the same time, sometimes in the mood for crude jokes, as unpredictable as the weather in the mountains.
The book invites you to immerse yourself in the world of legends and discover the old stories in both languages - German and Czech. It tells of the myths and legends surrounding the ruler of the mountains, who is seen as both a guardian of nature and a being full of contradictions.
This cross-cultural project of the House of German-Czech Understanding in Reinowitz was awarded the literary prize "Book of the Year" of the Liberec Region and symbolizes the efforts of the house to keep the common past of Czechs and Germans alive.
