The benefits and use of citrus
At the 12th Saxon Citrus Days, the orangeries will once again provide a stage, just as they did under Augustus the Strong. The Saxon sovereign, who acquired Großsedlitz in 1723, was a passionate citrus plant collector. In his time, there were up to 3,000 citrus trees of different species and varieties in the Dresden court gardens. This year, the focus is on the benefits and uses of citrus. What does the lemon do in wine or the orange in scouring milk? The exhibition therefore focuses on the history of the use of citrus with its active ingredients and aromas in pharmacies and kitchens.
The event takes place in both orangeries and offers an extensive supporting program.
In addition to free guided tours, practical tips and advice in the Lower Orangery by the Großsedlitz orangery gardeners, sales exhibition all about citrus in the Upper and Lower Orangery and in the Upper Orangery Parterre as well as culinary offers in the Long Gallery and around the Café Friedrichschlösschen.
Tickets will soon be available in advance and at the ticket office of the Baroque Garden.
Information about the program on both days - 30 & 31 May 2026 can be found here.
