Embedded in the bizarre rocky landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the once impregnable fortress towers 247 metres above the Elbe valley. The 9.5-hectare rock plateau is visible from afar. The large permanent exhibition "IN LAPIDE REGIS - 800 Years of Life on Königstein" on the history of Königstein Fortress offers information worth knowing about the unique ensemble of more than 50 imposing buildings from different eras. In addition, there are special exhibitions that change annually. The 1.7 km long tour along the circular wall offers a fascinating view of the Elbe valley and Saxon Switzerland.
