Gohrisch - In the spell of the table mountains
Gohrisch is the first climatic health resort in Saxony and immerses its visitors in the wealth of the stones, amongst other things.
Gohrisch borough with its districts of Cunnersdorf, Kleinhennersdorf, Gohrisch health resort and Papstdorf.
The borough of Gohrisch is situated in a peaceful, woodland and climatically balanced location on an elevated plain to the left of the River Elbe at the foot of the stone of the same name. The resort, which was once the home of the composer Dimitri Schostakowitsch, is in the immediate vicinity of the towns of Bad Schandau and Königstein. Surrounded by woodland and the former rocky mountains of Gohrisch, Papststein and Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, the idyllic health resort spans some of the striking landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
The proximity to the famous table mountains of Lilienstein and Pfaffenstein as well as Königstein Fortress accounts for the attraction of this exposed location. The district of Gohrisch health resort has been known and loved as a "summer-fresh and climatic health resort" since the Gründerzeit.
The surroundings invite guests to enjoy expansive walks through the unique landscape. Those scaling the table mountains can look forward to intoxicating views of the surrounding landscape which are typical for Saxon Switzerland. There are several viewpoints on the rugged rocks of the Papststein, for example. Looking to the north, you can see the Schrammsteine and, when the weather is good, you can even see as far as the Tanzplan beyond Sebnitz.
The sandstone caves in Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, which are reminiscent of the quarrying of sandstone in this area, make a worthwhile day-trip destination.
