Our tour starts in Hinterhermsdorf and initially takes us along the national park cycle route towards Rabensteine. We soon pass the Buchenparkhalle. If you wish, you can take a detour to the Obere Schleuse gorge here - however, the gorge is not directly accessible by bike. The main route continues downhill on the national park cycle path to the Kirnitzsch, which we follow to the border with the Czech Republic.
Shortly after crossing the border, we follow cycle route no. 3030 on a well-gravelled forest path. At a wooden statue commemorating soldiers who passed through the region on the Bohemian Road, we turn left onto cycle route no. 3029. Continue in the direction of Na Tokáni (Balzhütten), where there is a first refreshment stop.
Now the first ascent is behind us and we pass an information point of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park. We continue along the road and, after a scenic ride, roll into the picturesque village of Doubice. The resort town with its pretty half-timbered houses has a rich history: In the Middle Ages, one of the oldest glassworks in Bohemia operated here, later the textile industry shaped the region. Today, in addition to numerous restaurants, there is also a curious square where old Eastern Bloc tanks meet carved wooden sculptures.
We continue along cycle route no. 3029 towards Kyjov, turning left at a bend onto cycle route no. 3031. If you wish, you can continue along the road to the Khaatal dam - a welcome way to cool off, especially in warm weather. Admission is free.
Cycle route no. 3031 now takes you once again through the middle of the forest, which is generally characterized by forest conversion on this route. The surface alternates between gravel, a short section of flagstone path and asphalt.
We ride past more wooden sculptures that tell of the death march of prisoners from a concentration camp who died shortly before the end of the war. Soon afterwards, we head steeply downhill back towards Kirnitzsch. Our brakes have their work cut out for them. Once in the valley, we cross the border and return to Saxony, where we rejoin the German section of the Kirnitzschradweg. The last section takes us back to Hinterhermsdorf. Without an e-bike, one last strenuous climb awaits us here.
