The Kirnitzsch Cycle Route connects Saxony and Bohemia and follows the course of the Kirnitzsch from its source near Krásná Lípa in the Czech Republic to Bad Schandau on the Elbe. The route leads through the idyllic Kyjovské údolí (Khaatal) and passes small villages, dense forests and impressive sandstone cliffs of Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland. After crossing the border at Zadní Doubice, the trail follows the picturesque Kirnitzsch Valley, past old mills, the Lichtenhain waterfall and the historic Kirnitzsch Valley Railway. Again and again, you are treated to magnificent views of the rocky landscape and unspoiled nature. Numerous rest stops and inns along the route invite you to linger. The Kirnitzsch cycle path offers a unique experience of nature and combines cultural and scenic highlights from both countries - perfect for anyone who wants to actively discover the beauty of the border region
The Kirnitzsch Valley Railway runs at regular intervals between the Lichtenhain waterfall and the Bad Schandau spa gardens. Please watch out for the tracks on the road and the traffic!
The cycle tour along the Kirnitzsch is suitable for trekking bikes, mountain bikes and gravel bikes, with or without a motor. Road bikes only get their money's worth from the road in the Kirnitzsch valley.
