From the parking lot, we first walk northeast on Altendorfer Street towards the town exit until an asphalted hiking trail branches off to the right. We follow this slightly downhill to the edge of the forest, where we turn right again onto a field path. Now about 700 m must be tackled somewhat more strenuous uphill, where it can get a bit bumpier depending on the seasonal path condition. Once this section is completed by reaching a homestead, the most difficult part is behind us. Also, there is a nice rest area at the junction of the path into Pestalozzistraße. After that, except for the short access to the tower that has well-drivable concrete paving, only asphalted surfaces await us. The detour through the village to the northwest to another rest area is especially worth it because of the beautiful view towards the Vorderer Sächsische Schweiz. All the beautiful views of the surroundings during the hike can also be found on the observation tower. Therefore, for the connoisseur, the excursion to the tower alone is also recommendable.
Those who prefer it more leisurely can also walk the shortest way from the parking lot to the barrier-free observation tower.
By car from Bad Schandau via Rathmannsdorf the steep narrow road into the district Höhe or to it from Altendorf coming from Sebnitz.
The parking lot for visitors to the observation tower on Altendorfer Street (see starting point on the tour map) is free of charge and wheelchair accessible.
Attention: In order to reach the observation tower elevator with a wheelchair instead of the turnstile, which is impassable for wheelchair users, a so-called euro key, which is also used for access to disabled toilets, is absolutely necessary! However, the gate can only be opened with it after paying the entrance fee (currently 1,- EUR) by coin insertion.
A signposted disabled toilet is located behind the community center but is unfortunately not accessible at the moment (Sept. 2023).
